Religion and music are complimentary resources for affecting lives and appreciating God: this celebrates Western musical traditions both classical and Christian, drawing important connections between an appreciation for music and basic Christian traditions. An excellent survey evolves.

Importance of music in worship and religion

Dr. Blackwell, a professor of religion at Furman University and choirmaster at a small Episcopal parish, presents a well-researched, well-written, and extremely interesting take on religious/sacred music and its history. As a professor and choirmaster/musician, he is uniquely qualified to address this subject, and his writing is excellent. But don't expect an embrace of contemporary Christian music.
